It’s Time to Get Rid of My Stuff

Buy more stuff

I’ve been giving this a lot of thought recently and, man, I’m ready to get rid of my stuff. Not all of it, but definitely most of it.

I’m dead serious.

I used to be addicted to stuff. The sad part is I never spent much of my money on anything of worth, but rather on things I found hilarious for a day or two at most. Like a glass shotgun filled with tequila. Or a Thor costume. Or an admittedly marvelous painting depicting Samuel L Jackson eating a cheeseburger a la Pulp Fiction.

That feeling you have? It’s envy.

All kidding aside, I’m sort of at this place where I’m ready as all hell to move forward with my goals and my life with my fiancé. Having a lot of stuff doesn’t necessarily contribute to this call. For example, I have a television I haven’t turned on in nearly six months. Why do I need this thing? I may as well sell it and contribute to my ultimate goal.

Truthfully, I don’t even need to sell in order to get rid of stuff. Money is for sure a plus, but I want to be as lightweight as possible ASAP. For example, I have a ton of clothes, much of which I don’t wear because they were acquired during my stuff addiction circa 2002-2011.

Alright, Dre, rather than make a list of all the stuff you want to get rid of, just focus on what you absolutely need.

  1. Fiancé – Duh.
  2. Laptop – I actually need to buy one of those.
  3. Clothes – Got more than enough so I can pick and choose what I need.
  4. Various camera equipment, recording devices, and computer accessories – Because that’s how I plan to make that moula… or is it ‘mula?’ Er, you know what I mean.

Not for nothing, but I can’t think of much else I need beyond basic living essentials. I have a phone too, of course, but it’s less of a necessity now that I’m exclusively using Skype and Google Voice. Outside of that, I’m thinking a new pair of sneakers because my current ones suck and a mobile wifi hotspot. Those are lower priority though so I’m not going to list them outright.

That’s it, y’all. That’s all I need. Pretty, simple right? That said, if there are any stuff addicts out there that are willing to indulge in their vice, hit me up. I have more than enough to share. In the meantime, I’m going to lighten my load a bit. It’ll make traveling toward my destination all the easier.

Peace out, party people
